Joel Tarantal

February 07, 1951 - October 23, 2021

Alrighty then. What a long, strange trip it was.  Joel Tarantal, born in Manhattan, New York to Abraham and Elaine Tarantal, passed away on October 23rd, 2021.  In the words of his beloved band the Grateful Dead, “Sometimes we live no particular way but our own.”  Joel lived his own life and was a kind, generous, peace-loving friend to everyone he met. His greatest joys were his family, his love of Mexican food, being in nature and his passion for music.  Joel is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Rizzuto Tarantal, daughters Maya Luria and Coppelia Tarantal, grandson Max Luria and sister Naomi Tarantal.   In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Bald Beauties Project (www.BaldBeautiesProject.org or PO Box 65796, Tucson, AZ 85728), a Southern Arizona non-profit founded by his granddaughter Kelsey Taylor Luria, who predeceased Joel.  A celebration of life will be held in the future with details to be announced.

Susan Yobp For the longest time Joel was just a smiling face with a friendly greeting at pretty much every incident I went to. Eventually that happened so often we learned each other’s names, musical histories and found we had many many many friends in common. From then on it was warm hugs, stories to share and always a promise to see each other down the road…None of us knew how hard that road would become, Still he always had a smile, some incredible photos or something interesting to share. Joel’s was a life very well lived and I will be forever Grateful to have shared the same time & space. Fare thee well Joel☮️💚☮️
