Susan Hilborn Reddy

November 27, 1941 - August 04, 2023

Susan Hilborn Reddy passed away on August 4, 2023, in Mill Valley, California after a courageous 15-month battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Known to all who loved her as “Bibi” – the Swahili grandmother name she chose after going on safari in Africa – she lived a full, rich life.  Bibi was a fun and loving grandmother to Charlotte Kerr, Tabitha Randazzo, and Sawyer Kerr, who adored her and shared countless laughs and adventures with her. She was a dedicated mother to Marisa Reddy Randazzo and Shannon Reddy Kerr; a true friend and mother-in-law to Robert Randazzo and Phil Kerr; a devoted sister to Jane Hilborn Heizmann and Martha Hilborn Silver and loving sister-in-law to Bill Heizmann and Larry Silver; a wonderful aunt to Stephanie Auerbach and Ed Heizmann and their families; and, a loving wife to Hilary ‘Lary’ Philip Reddy. She leaves behind countless friends and partners-in-crime in the places she called home, including Bayshore, New York City, Chatham, Sedgwick, Sausalito and Mill Valley.

Throughout her life, she was an avid sailor and was happiest sailing the waters of Great South Bay, Long Island Sound, and Stage Harbor. In 2001, she became the first female Commodore of Stage Harbor Yacht Club in Chatham, Massachusetts. She loved gin & tonics, cocktail parties, scuba diving, and knitting Christmas stockings for friends and family.  A true extravert, she could walk into any situation where she knew no one and leave with several new friends of all different ages; this was her superpower. She was simply a lot of fun to be around.

Born Susan Howie Hilborn to Norman Cornell Hilborn and Clare Baxter Hilborn on November 27, 1941, in Bayshore, New York, she attended the Hewlett School in Islip, New York and later earned an associate degree in early childhood education from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. She held an array of jobs, includin at Bankers Trust Company, Bank of Boston, and as a financial planner and mortgage lender. But her true love was teaching nursery school, especially at Brick Church School in New York City and, most recently, at Sausalito Nursery School. Through her teaching, she helped to shape the lives of many children and young teachers who remember her fondly to this day. As a way to continue this legacy, contributions can be made in her name to Sausalito Nursery School at https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=BR3Q8ATX7URLJ .

Thank you to all of you who knew her and loved her - you made her life truly wonderful!
