Craig J. Howard

April 12, 1947 - December 17, 2023

Craig J. Howard, a man whose life journey was as dynamic and enriching as the waves he loved to surf on, passed away at age 76 on December 17, 2023. Born in Everett, Washington on April 12th, 1947, Craig's early life was a tapestry of experiences, colored by the travels and changes brought by his father's service in the Air Force.

His academic pursuits led him to the ROTC at University of Colorado at Boulder, where he studied in the then-new field of Computer Science, graduating in 1968 with a degree that marked the start of a remarkable career. Furthering his education, Craig earned an MBA in Finance from the University of Southern California, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning and excellence.

Professionally, Craig started his own company as a visionary Systems Analyst, a role in which he shaped the technological landscapes of major corporations like Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota. His expertise was not just in demand in the corporate world but also served a crucial purpose during his service in the Air Force. As a dedicated Officer stationed in Manhattan Beach, CA, during the Vietnam War, Craig utilized his computer skills to aid in the war effort, was promoted to Captain and earned the affectionate title, "Captain Craigger."

But beyond his professional and military accolades, Craig was a man who embraced life with a zest that was contagious. His passion for boating, sailing and the ocean was a reflection of his adventurous spirit. He was not just skilled in navigating the waters but also in bringing joy to those around him, often taking friends and family on memorable trips to Catalina. He enjoyed being a long-time member of the King Harbor Yacht Club and his many friends there. A man of many talents, Craig was also an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying football, skiing, knee boarding, surfing, windsurfing, and golfing. His love for CU and USC football was a testament to his spirited nature, often playfully torn between loyalties.

Above all, Craig was a beacon of love and support for his family and friends. His big smile and caring heart were sources of comfort and joy to all who knew him. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us.

As we gather to celebrate Craig's life on Saturday, February 17th, 2024, in Redondo Beach, California, let us remember a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man deeply loved. Craig J. Howard, you will be forever missed but never forgotten.

Marina Golden For the last 20 years you were one of my best friends. We shared a love of horror movies, the stock market, bbq, and definitely cocktails! I miss sending those funny, not politically correct jokes ever day! You always told me you would live to 100 and I sure wish you would have! Your friend Marina

Shelley Cantatore Wagner How I miss my dear friend, Craig!! I STILL can’t believe he’s really gone. So many wonderful memories of him drinking beer and me drinking wine on his boat, Carpe Diem. I’ll never forget the Super Bowl party, Halloween party, Christmas Boat Parade or just hanging out at his beloved yacht club for lunch and great company. Such an intelligent man who loved his football and conservative politics. I miss him coming over to our house for the holidays, for a BBQ or just to watch a big football game with Steve. I’ll never forget that great day that I had special dodger tickets with THE most amazing seats and unlimited food and invited him and another friend to join Steve and me. Craig was soooo happy that day. I am so grateful that Craig attended our wedding just this past September 9. I know he was one of my biggest fans because he would constantly tell me that. He was always supportive of my relationship with Steve and was one of our greatest cheerleaders from the very beginning. As his friend, he always made me feel loved and special. I will never forget Craig, such a special friend, who was truly one of a kind. He will be sorely missed but I will cherish the wonderful memories of him that will forever remain in my heart.
