Maria Teresa “Terry” Reyes, 71, went home to the Lord on the morning of May 15, 2025 at her residence. By her side was her family and her beloved animals Mo, Canela, Charlie, Khi, Muchachito, and Sonny Boy. She was born September 18, 1953 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Bernardino and Juanita Reyes.
Her journey on this earth was not always easy, but was one marked with love. Not only to her family and friends, but anyone that had the privilege of knowing her.She always had a special and unique love for everyone. Terry had special things she shared with those she knew individually, and parts she gave to everyone. Never one to take life too seriously, we will always laugh when we recall her sayings like” Don’t Freak!” or “It hard out there for the pimp!”. She loved blasting her music while making tortillas and drinking her cold brew coffee. She knew no stranger, making anyone who walked through her door feel like family. She wore her heart on her apron, so no one ever left hungry. She had the amazing ability to make something out of nothing, that none could compare. Terry was the mom our friends wish they had, the grandma our children loved to be with, and friend that was more like a sister. Always one to brag about her five children, eighteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, she would always say,” We are so blessed!” and “We don’t have any ugly kids!”
Terry is survived by her children Sofia Reyes(Dr Jon Tsou), Richard Johnson(Naomi), Victoria Barnwell(Jeff), Sarah Pesses(Chris), and Michael Johnson(Sharon). She was blessed with grandchildren Nina Charvea, Roman Charvea,(Kristin), Israel Charvea, Marissa Charvea, Draven Johnson(Ariel), Trinity Johnson, Adrianna de La Cruz-Busano(Jaelen), Samantha Marquez-Johns(Ben), Jeffery Barnwell, Joshua Marquez, Macy Marquez, Joey Marquez, Christopher Barnwell, Emma Pesses, Samuel Pesses, Matthew Pesses, Penelope Johnson, and Guinevere Johnson. She is the great grandma, or Abuelita, to Luciano Charvea, Evelyn Charvea, Olivia, Oliver Dunn, Amaya Dunn, Milo Otero, Daniel Marquez-Hill, Mila Marquez, and Ella Marquez. Also sisters Josefina Perry(William), Luz Sweeny(Tom),Carmen Jones(Rick), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends she loved deeply and would often cry at the thought of not being able to talk to them when the Leukemia began to take its toll.
She is preceded in death by her parents Bernardino Reyes and Juanita Boswell, husband Russell Johnson, companion Robert Telles, niece Tina Morgan, and nephew Ronnie Perry.
Terry has left an irreplaceable void in the heart of her loved ones. Her smile, her strength, her humor, her childlike mentality, and amount of love was colorfully stitched into the fabric of our lives, just like her embroidered pictures she created for everyone with love in every stitch. She would give her last dollar to anyone, as the material things of this word were not her treasures. Her treasures were her family, friends, animals, birds, flowers, a favorite song, and Almighty God.
We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but the way she lived, and will continue to live in our hearts until we are with her again with our Lord and Savior. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you would plant some flowers or give someone flowers. Instead of condolences, show compassion. Instead of sadness, “Love eachother” , like she would always say. Instead of crying, rejoice in the blessed assurance in Jesus Christ.
“Jesus said to her,”I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die”. (John 11:25-26
A special thanks to her hospice angels Luana, Candice, Ryan, and Charles. You made the hardest time so beautiful for Terry and her whole family. Thank you for doing God’s work with love and mercy. We love you.
