Dennis Arthur Ruffer, age 69, passed away on July 5, 2025 due to complications from cancer. Born in Adrian, Michigan, on September 4, 1955, Dennis carved out a life marked by intense focus, intellectual curiosity, and professional achievement.
Dennis graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary in 1973 and earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Western Michigan University in 1975. His career as a software engineer spanned more than 50 years, culminating in his work as an Embedded Systems Computer Software programmer—a testament to both his intellect and passion for programming.
Dennis made his home in several places, including Kalamazoo MI, Rochester, NY, Torrance, CA, Hermosa Beach CA, Castle Rock CO, and most recently San Jose CA where he was an active and devoted member of Apostles Lutheran Church. His Christian faith was a steady presence, and he maintained a strong personal connection to his beliefs.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dennis was deeply passionate about programming languages and genealogy. He found joy not only in exploring these interests, but also in fostering community through them, sharing knowledge and connection with others.
He is survived by his daughter Marya Rose Ruffer Fortin and her husband Michael Fortin of
West Olive, MI; his son Benjamin Martin Ruffer of Norristown, PA, and Benjamin’s wife Krista,
along with Dennis’s grandchildren Paige and Luke. He is also survived by his sisters, Deanna
Lynn Ruffer and her husband Kevin Zartman, and Shyla Helen Ruffer Matthews. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Donald Owen Ruffer and Norma Emma Ruffer.
