Emory Marquis Landry

September 16, 1980 - April 16, 2025

Emory Marquis Landry was born to teen parents, Emory Dwayne Landry (18) and Katrina Arlene Dawkins (17), at 9:48 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 1980, at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California.

In his first 9 months, he attended Abraham Lincoln High School’s Nursery for teenaged parents. In his early years, his best friends and closest playmates were his brother, Peter, and cousins, Gene, Drew, and Nefertiti. At around 3 years old, when he and Gene would see each other, he would excitedly and affectionately say, "Gene, Gene" and Gene's response would be, "Me, Me!". They would run up to each other and touch each others wiggley fingers. As a you boy, he played baseball in La Mesa/Encanto and basketball at the Jackie Robinson YMCA. He loved swimming, skating, and playing at parks and beaches with his family, in San Diego. He also loved cooking, music (especially Jodeci and Tupac), his dogs, and animals in general. The San Francisco 49ers was his favorite football team. Although he really enjoyed going to amusement parks, he really disliked rollercoasters. Marquis also had very close and special relationships with his mother's sisters, Antoinette, Yolanda, Pat, and Tonia, his maternal grandmother, the late and beloved Charles Etta Dawkins, his paternal great-grandmother, "Nana", and his paternal "Auntie Vyna" (Melvyna) and his step-father Pete.

Emory attended numerous elementary schools in San Diego and Chula Vista, CA include Marshall, Encanto and Otay Elementary Schools, Conway Middle School and Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, FL, and Avondale High School in Decatur, GA. Although he quit school at the age of 16, he earned a GED in San Diego, CA when he was 19 years old.

When he was 12 years old, his mother moved him and his brother, Peter, to Orlando, FL to join her while she served in the U. S. Navy.  He loved spending time at Naval Training Command RTC/NTC Orlando, FL with is mother and brother, having picnics with his mother’s Navy friends and coworkers, going to the arcade on base, riding boats on the lake, eating pizza, going to Daytona Beach, and attending a summer camp where his mother was a volunteer. While living in base housing in Orlando, he was a DJ at the base housing skating rink along with his best buddy Gavin, where he and his brother would go on Friday night’s. They rocked that skating rink ya’ll!!

Sadly, he went home to be with the Lord around Saturday, April 12, 2025, in Adelanto, CA at the age of 44 years old due to natural causes. His official date of death is April 16, 2025.

Marquis was preceded in death by his father, Emory Dwayne Landry, maternal grandparents Charles Etta Dawkins (Wright) and Lawyer Dawkins, Jr., paternal grandmother Estelle ‘Pat’ Williams and Tony Gallegos, maternal great-grandparents Charles W. H. and Lillie Mae Wright (Jones), and paternal great-grandmother Edna ‘Nana’ Lewis, favorite cousin Drew Nesbit, maternal aunt, Deanna Lorraine Addison, paternal uncle Jeffrey Bedford, cousins Joseph Anthony Jones and Ernest Lee Lynch, Kamara Jones, and other family members.

He is survived by his 8 children, Emmanuel Marquis-Israel and Moses Isaiah (Cynthia Childress), Katrina Simone (Andrea Letchaw), Semaj Emory (Luciana Quintero-Maclin), and Emari, Drew, Emon and Prince (Tyra Sue Leigh Williams), his mother Katrina, his only sibling and brother, Peter, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He truly left an impact on us all. He was, is, and will always and forever be so deeply loved by his children, mother, brother and all other family. Our hearts are heavy.
