Lucy Markarian entered peacefully into rest at her home in Napa California on January 16th 2025 she was 88 years old. Lucy Markarian (Hagopian) was born in Selma, California on February 21st 1936 to Dan and Aroosiag Hagopian, she was one of 9 children and grew up on a grape ranch in Fresno. Lucy graduated from Layton High School and went on toFresno State University where she earned herbachelor’s degree in education. She was teaching elementary school in Fresno when she met her husband, Hyke “Danny” Markarian who was stationed there. They married and moved to Boston in Hyke’s home state of Massachusetts. When Hyke was hiredon as an engineer at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, they returned to California and settled in Napa where they raised their family in the Browns Valley neighborhood.
While living in Napa, Lucy was active in many community activities. She was the director of Presbyterian preschool program at First Presbyterian church in Napa, beloved by her many students there over the years. In addition, Lucy worked at the votingbooths at almost every election, and she belonged to various clubs and groups including PEO and American Association of University Women’s Garden Gloves, Antiques and Book groups. Lucy played bridge, quilted and sewed, restored antiques and was a voracious reader. Her gardening skills resulted in a bounty of tomatoes and grape leaves, both of which she preserved for fabulous dishes she prepared. Her Armenian specialties of stuffed grape leaves, pilaf and home-made yoghurt were favorites of her family and friends.
She spent her retirement traveling with her husband and raising her two oldest granddaughters. Lucy and Hyke were married for 64 years together they had 3 children 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren she was predeceased by her Husband Hyke Markarian, and son David. She is survived by 2 children, 6 grandchildren, including her two oldest granddaughters Dominique Markarian, and Leann Parmar( Monty) and great grandsons Jay Parmar and Kairo Markarian. Lucy was a warm and loving Wife , Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and will be missed dearly.
