Alicia Massaro
David Young Sr., 92, of Escondido, California, passed away peacefully in his home on April 1, 2026.
A proud United States Marine who served during the Korean War, David lived a life defined by hard work, strength, and devotion to his family. He worked for the City of Escondido and the North County Transit District and was also a skilled mason, leaving behind beautiful brickwork throughout San Diego County as a testament to his craftsmanship.
David was one of the toughest men you could ever meet, yet he had a soft spot for his children and the people he loved. In his younger years he enjoyed working out and swimming, and he appreciated the simple pleasures of life—family barbecues, a good Costco hot dog, Raisin Pie with hot coffee and fishing off the Oceanside Pier, especially with his boys. He was also a loyal fan of the Chargers, Padres, and USC also known for his sharp wit and love of humor.
David is survived by his loving wife, Irma Young; his children Alicia (Frank) Massaro, Marlena (Scott) Weber, Rick Young, and Casey Young; and his grandchildren Mason, Hailey, and Hanna Massaro; Kendal and Cayden Weber; Cameron Piekarski; and Alyssa, Holden, and Trevor Young.
He was preceded in death by his sons Robert Young and David Young Jr., his parents Bob and Mickey Young, and his sister Deanna Young.
A private family ceremony will be held where David will be laid to rest at sea, surrounded by those who love him, honoring a life well lived and a man who found peace near the water.
