John V Hoytt

August 04, 1958 - June 06, 2021

Bless the Lord, JOHN VINCENT HOYTT entered into this world August 4, 1958 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, OH. He was received by his parents the late John B. & Catherine (nee Crosby) Hoytt. Although a sickly child he grew up the middle child in a typical happy family with two sisters. John accepted the Lord as his personal Savior, April 1, 1979, and became a member of Union Grove Baptist Church under the late E.L. Rogers. While attending Union Grove he and his high school sweetheart Elaine Gaines were joined in Holy Matrimony on July 23, 1983. Being a traveling man, over the years he fellowshipped with many churches around Cleveland and lastly Christian Hope Baptist Church. John led a full and rewarding life with many outstanding personal and professional accomplishments. Upon completing his early education in the Cleveland and Shaker Heights Public School system, he attended Remington College and Cuyahoga Community College to acquire his nursing certifications and an Ohio Real-estate License. These achievements afforded him a medical career at Brentwood Hospital which later became Cleveland Clinic South Pointe. Health reasons caused him to retire from care giving with 37 years of service in 2018. For several years he also sold real-estate around the greater Cleveland area under Century Twenty-One Solid Gold Properties. Having a desire to help others John joined the Prince Hall Masonic family under Excelsior Lodge No. 11, on April 23, 1998. His dedication to the craft was an important component in him being elevated to Worshipful Master in 2006. Other affiliations included being a member of Bezaleel Consistory No. 15, El Hasa Temple No. 28 and Queen Elizabeth Chapter No. 9, OES~PHA. For a period, he marched with the Temple Drum & Bugle Corp playing cymbals. Bro. Hoytt expanded his masonic education and good works with the sisters. In 2008 he served with his niece Sis. Sherry D. Hall, Worthy Matron as her Worthy Parton; in 2010 he and Sis. Hoytt were the first married couple to be crowned King & Queen of Amaranth Grand Chapter for their outstanding fundraising and he returned to the East serving as Worthy Patron with the love of his life Sis. Elaine G. Hoytt, Worth Matron of 2011. Vince, as he was lovingly called by many, enjoyed spending time with loved ones, old school cars, music, the beauties of nature and photography. His keen eye for detail let him capture some of God’s beautiful creations with the camera lens. In developing his photography, he started ‘Kaptured Reflections’ and was blessed to have several clients. Some of his works now hang throughout South Pointe Hospital, as well as many homes for people to enjoy. His charismatic fatherly nature allowed him to be adopted by many and gained him other nick names such as “Poppy” and “Uncle” as he traveled on his earthly journey. A journey which he wants you to know in his own words, “I was born with many differences, which seemed to make me a very unique person. My condition was “Kartagners Syndrone” that effects the respiratory system and causes some people to have “Dextracardia” which is the reverse of the heart and internal organs. Through all the doctor visits, trials and tribulations growing up my parents always tried to keep life normal for me and my sisters. I’d say they succeeded and I’m thankful by God’s grace and mercy, I made it to be grown with a beautiful wife, children and grandchildren of my own. However, after fifty plus years my lungs began to fail again due to my condition. My options were pursuing the miracle of lung transplant or just lay down & die. Those who truly know me, know trusting the goodness of God, my choice was to fight. By now, you may be saying wow! But, just know, whatever time I was granted from the miracle of transplant, I had a thankful heart, a good life and the love of family and friends.” John Vincent’s life mission was complete and he departed this life on Sunday, June 6, 2021. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife: Elaine Gaines Hoytt; daughters: Shawnte D. and LaLaine V. Hoytt; sons: Edward and Emmanuel Block; God-daughters: Katrina James, Breslyn Crosby and Kaleah Starks; two sisters: Queen Denise Walker and Renee R. Thomas; two brothers-in-law: Jeffrey A. Thomas, Sr. and William Walker; childhood friend/brother: Carlton Murray; devoted nephew/son: Arron D. Phillips (Tiffany); four grandchildren: Natasha T. and Truth Hoytt, Mariah L. Carter and Antione D. Davis, Jr.; one uncle: Bennie (Jean) Crosby; aunts: Georgia Surratt of Los Angeles, Olivia Marbury, and Ethel Green (Frederick) of Cleveland, Ann Drake of Columbus; a host of other relatives, friends and extended family.
